First Look: Jennifer Lawrence As Katniss Everdeen in "The Hunger Games"
Calling all “Hunger Games” fans! Entertainment Weekly has the first look at Jennifer Lawrence as heroine Katniss Everdeen in the upcoming “Hunger Games” movie.
Lionsgate confirmed that the 20-year-old Oscar nominee for “Winter”s Bone” had landed the coveted role in March. She will star alongside Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth in the post-apocalyptic thriller, which follows the story of one girl”s survival in a dystopian future where children are made to compete against each other in battles to the death.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Lawrence revealed that she had mixed emotions about the part.
“I knew that as soon as I said yes, my life would change,” she says. “And I walked around an entire day thinking “It”s not too late, I could still go back and do indies, I haven”t said yes yet, it”s not too late.”"
But she ultimately knows she made the right choice.
“I love this story … and if I had said no, I would regret it every day.”
Fans of the original Suzanne Collins novels have a love for Katniss that borders on obsession, so there has been a great deal of speculation and concern over Lawrence”s suitability for the part. But much of their anxiety seems to have been calmed by this first image. Lawrence looks perfectly intense enough to play a 16-year-old warrior.
